Michael, a 59-year-old male, presented to my functional nutrition practice with a history of hypertension and pre-diabetes. His symptoms included persistent high blood pressure, elevated fasting glucose levels, and disrupted sleep patterns, suggestive of Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (DSPD). He was on antihypertensive medication, and his glucose levels were steadily progressing towards a diabetic range. His symptoms were tiredeness during the day, relying heavily on coffee and feeling extremely stressed all the time.
Assessment:
Upon initial evaluation, it was evident that a comprehensive approach was required to address his health challenges. Key assessments and findings included:
Nutrient Deficiency Analysis: Extensive blood work revealed several nutrient deficiencies, including vitamin D, magnesium, potassium, calcium, fatty acids and some others. These deficiencies are known to influence blood pressure regulation and metabolic health.
